Today, I’ve got something exciting to share—it’s like having a “sixth finger” on your hand, a smart finger for your smart home setup! Meet the Fingerbot Plus—a small yet powerful gadget designed to push buttons or flip switches, turning ordinary devices into smart ones. If you’re new here, consider subscribing. Let’s dive in!

Imagine transforming any traditional switch or button in your home into a smart device with just a tap. Sounds futuristic, right? That’s precisely what the Fingerbot Plus does. You can control it remotely via the Smart Life app, or, as I’ll demonstrate, integrate it with Home Assistant for even more advanced automations.

Key Features and Setup

The device is battery-powered, so no need to worry about charging. I have the Zigbee version, but there’s also a Bluetooth version. Keep in mind that both versions require a gateway. I’m using a Sonoff Zigbee dongle with Home Assistant, but you could also use a Tuya Zigbee Gateway, which often doubles as a Bluetooth gateway.

I managed to buy the Fingerbot Plus for around $5, thanks to a special AliExpress deal. You’ll find the product link in the video description.

How Does It Work?

The Fingerbot has a small arm that can move up and down, making it capable of pressing buttons. But that’s not all—it offers different modes and configurations, which we’ll explore later in the video.

Unboxing

On the front of the box, you’ll see the device and a brief setup guide. Once you open the cover, remember to remove the protective tab from the battery compartment to turn on the device. You can scan the QR code on the box to download the app, or, in my case, I’ll be adding it directly to Home Assistant.

Inside the box, you’ll find:

  • The Fingerbot Plus
  • Two pieces of 3M tape
  • A CR2 battery
  • QR codes for downloading a digital user manual

First Impressions

The build quality feels solid and not cheap. There’s a button on top, but it seems more like a touch-sensitive button than a physical one. Interestingly, you can swap out the “finger” attachment for different types, depending on your needs. I have the standard attachment, but you can purchase others separately.

Connecting to Home Assistant

Since I’m using a Sonoff Zigbee dongle and Zigbee2MQTT, I’ll walk you through the pairing process:

  1. Open Zigbee2MQTT in Home Assistant.
  2. Click Permit Join to allow new devices to connect.
  3. Reset the Fingerbot by holding the button until the blue light starts blinking.
  4. Once it’s detected, it will appear as a new device in Home Assistant.

The device exposes several features, including:

  • Click, Switch, and Program modes
  • Delay and sustain time settings
  • Movement limits, allowing precise control over how far the arm moves

Testing and Use Cases

I tested different modes, including the Click mode, where the arm quickly presses and releases a button, and the Switch mode, where it holds the button for a longer duration. You can adjust the movement range and delay to suit various tasks.

Here are some potential use cases for the Fingerbot Plus:

  1. Intercom control – Attach it to your intercom button to remotely open a gate or door.
  2. Coffee machines – If your machine requires a single button press, the Fingerbot can automate your morning coffee routine.
  3. Pet feeders – Use it to dispense food at scheduled times by pressing the feeder button.
  4. Preventing sleep mode on a computer – Place it on your keyboard to simulate activity and prevent the screen from turning off.
  5. Children’s night lights – Set up a routine where the Fingerbot switches on a night light for a set period before turning it off.
